Bozzolo means “cocoon” in Italian, while also being the name of a small town in the province of Mantua. Its metaphorical meaning echoes the Chinese expression of becoming trapped within a cocoon of one’s own making. On June 11, 2021, from sunrise at 05:31 to sunset at 21:05, I walked continuously along the boundary of Bozzolo while repeatedly reciting a series of sentences drawn from personal experiences and judgments imposed by others. Through prolonged repetition, recitation became a process of reinforcing memory, while continuous walking subjected the body to another form of repetition and exhaustion. Using the linguistic coincidence between Bozzolo as a place and as a “cocoon,” the work overlaps geographical boundaries, psychological enclosure, and personal memory. The entire performance, together with the town’s landscape and everyday activities, was recorded on video.
